Reviews
I was sent to the hotel car park on the beach with my scooter by the security staff. I wanted to go to the beach and then eat in the hotel restaurant/bar. An employee of the restaurant saw us and reported this to the security. Only when I set up the beach car park was I politely asked by the security people to move the scooter to the other end of the beach. (Although the car park was completely empty) I was escorted by the friendly Secrurity man to the new car park outside the hotel.
However, I am very angry about the treatment of guests. Why didn't the man from the restaurant point this out to me immediately? Instead they waited until I lay down on the sand. This is absolutely unusual for a 5* hotel/resort and I would not come again. This has never happened to me before in this hotel category.

Our stay at Amanwella was absolutely exceptional and simply magical. The hotel style is very modern with a tropical minimalist touch. The resort has 30 suites in total and a large pool and beach area, creating a lot of space for privacy and relaxation. The beach is beautiful, as it is surrounded by lots of nature and palm trees. The ocean can be rough from time to time, however the large pool area with ocean view is a very nice alternative. Since we were unlucky with the weather and experienced heavy rainfall, the only thing we may have liked was a gym or a pool table, for some extra activity.
We loved our spacious, tropical bungalow suite with beautiful wooden door frames, a private plunge pool and comfortable terrace with ocean view. It is also possible to arrange a private spa treatment on the terrace of your suite, I can highly recommend the traditional Abhyanga massage, the ambiance and massage quality was simply amazing.
The highly professional and attentive service is something we would also like to highlight, from the pool to beach area, the bar (Mr. Viraj) or the restaurant (Mr. Maduranga) the service was always impeccable, attentive and very friendly. We would also like to thank Janith, who planned all the arrangements for our special occasion and accompanied us during our stay.
It was truly paradise and such a dreamy stay for us as a freshly engaged couple. We will definitely come back to the Aman.
A perfect example of predatory business practices. The hotel tries to occupy public beach areas with the help of their private guards.
DO NOT SUPPORT THIS PLACE.
We visited this hotel last year and it has absolutely no soul. There were no people and it was just a weird vibe. Later we found out that the hotel tries to make the beach next to it their private beach and destroys the small local businesses (that were there first) in a very aggressive way.
We have visited the Amanwella restaurant. Overall impressions are very good, especially concerning the service BUT several pitfalls could be noticed, that should not occur at the 5* level. Gnocchi vere definitely overcooked and cream was added to carbonara - this is NOT the way to do that! So in summary good job for the service, average for cuisine. MOST IMPORTANTLY HOWEVER WE HAVE LEARNED AFTERWARDS THAT HOTEL BLOCKS IN A VERY UNFAIR WAY PUBLIC ACCESS TO THE BEACH AND FIGHTS LOCAL SMALL BUISNESSES. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! We would have never come had we known that beforehand!
Had an amazing dinner at the hotel restaurant. Service and food were fantastic.
I stayed at Amawella at the beginning of year in our long trip trhough Sri Lanka and let just say it was my first time experiencing the Aman-level hospitality. Such attentive service and the willingness to go the extra mile. We traveled with an infant so they graciously extended our check out until 3pm AND arrange a room for us to rest at Amangalle before we headed to the airport! Do not hesitate to stay here if you have the money to spend, you wont regret it.
Fantastic attentive staff, wonderful location in a great country. Made our holiday all the more richer..
